Oscar Dress Card Part Two

Welcome to Oscar dress card tutorial day. Last week we counted down our favourite Oscar outfits and we picked Vanessa Kirby’s light pink elegant gown as our #1 choice. Today we will unveil our card inspired by this gown and the steps to make it. Take a look…

First of all I went through all of the pink cardstock and picked out a couple lighter shades.

I used a darker shade as the base/card measuring 4 ¾ x 6 ¾ inches.

Next I cut a larger layer 4 ½ x 6 ½ inches to go onto the card front. It was the lightest shade of pink almost similar to the colour of the actual gown.

Then I chose a pink shade in-between the two and I cut two 1 ¼ inch wide strips the length of the sheet of cardstock.

I glued those strips down onto the light layer from diagonal corner to diagonal corner forming almost an X or what reminded me of the deep V neck on the dress. I then trimmed the strips to fit onto the card.

Then I glued this layer onto the card front.

Now I cut two more layers. One is a sparkly silver layer (2 ½ x 2 ¾  inches) representing the simple necklace that complimented the gown and then a smaller white layer (2 ½ x 2 inches) for stamping.

I stamped the white layer with a simple word “Happy” and I did this in red ink and embossed it. I wanted to really tie the entire Oscar look into the card so I incorporated her red lips and nails by stamping in red.

Then I glued the white layer off center onto the silver layer.

I put a foam piece on the back and then attached that to the center of the card covering where the two strips of pink come together in the middle.

And there you have our 2021 Oscar dress card!

Oscar Dress Card 2021 Part 1

 

Alright, it’s finally Oscar dress card time. The Oscars were defiantly a lower key type of situation this year and they should be due to COVID, but those who attended still had some gorgeous outfits that inspired us to create a beautiful and vibrant 2021 Oscar card. This year we are doing things kind of different. We’ll be doing our top 10 countdown today but you’ll have to stay tuned for next week’s Oscar card tutorial and reveal! Here are our top 10 outfits (in no particular order except for our number one choice). 

Zendaya – Yellow and bright colours seem to be big this year. After a very dull and sad year, it was nice to see all this brightness and happiness. It’s not just yellow, it’s neon yellow so there was no way to not notice it.

Regina King- This dress may not be for everyone but for some reason I was drawn to it. The silk and the sparkly stripes worked together. The shoulders and sleeves may seem a bit too much for some, but overall it was a very pretty dress.

Margot Robbie- Print...this dress reminded me of the 90s. I may have even had a dress similar to this. The version that Margot Robbie wore was elevated. It had a simpleness to it but it also seemed very glamourous and sophisticated.

Amanda Seyfried – Red and poofy! This gown was something else. Not everyone can pull off such a big gown but it was perfect for Amanda Seyfried and it just caught your eye. The deep V and all of the rouching took it to the next level.

Colman Domingo- Pink and sparkly, this suit is so cheerful and bright. It really stood out and not in a bad way. It has just the right amount of glamour and pizzazz and I loved it.

Leslie Odom Jr.- Anything that includes gold stands out to me and this was no exception. The suit had more of a muted matte gold look so it wasn’t too much.

Halle Berry-This gown was very pretty. I think that is the best word to describe it. It was a shade of pink that you don’t see too often; it was soft and calming. It had so many little outstanding elements like the bow on the front, the layering, the soft sweet color, and the beautiful bodice.

Viola Davis- The white gown that Viola Davis had on was gorgeous. The cutout design at the top complimented the flowy simple bottom. Very elegant.

Carey Mulligan – Ok, so I was torn between this gown and the one I chose as number for the top pick and Oscar card; both are very different from each other. I loved this colour. It was more of a metallic yellow than gold. It’s not one that everyone can pull off, I couldn’t, but again it just exudes this happiness and cheerfulness because of its brightness. I also loved the cutout and the wide poof of the skirt.

Vanessa Kirby- As my number one choice I picked Vanessa Kirby’s gown. It is very simple, but I found it so elegant and the soft blush colour makes for a classic. The small cutout on the bodice, backless element, and the train worked to further the elegance. It reminds me of something that Audrey Hepburn would wear.

Birthday Card

 

Another week already!

This week I made a Birthday card for a friend so I thought that I would share it with you.

As Summer wraps up, I thought I would go with a bright and fun card.

I used the regular size that we do for cards, 6 ¾ x4 ¾. I picked a bright green as my base and then layered a 6 ¼ x 4 ¼ bright pink layer on top.

Before doing that I stamped the pink layer with beige ink and then used white embossing powder over it to make for bright white words. I left some space under the words, an inch or so. Then I flattened this layer.

                                   

I punched some bright green hearts, three to be exact. Then when the layer was flat, I glued the three hearts under the words.

                                                       

Then finally I glued the layer onto the card and then a bright cheery Birthday card was created!  

                                                       

Valentine's Day Card for Kids

It’s only a week until Valentine’s Day and we have a fun little craft that you can make for the special child in your life.

We thought it would be fun to make a cute kid’s card to make them feel special and loved on Valentine’s Day.

We found a super cute stamp, an elephant with hearts and an umbrella. We’ve also chosen a fun pack of cardstock to work with. It has some bright cheerful colours sure to make anyone smile.

For our card base we chose the light green shade folded it and cut it into a 5x5 inch square. Then we cut a layer of orange (3.5 inch square) and light purple (3 inch square). To stamp on we cut a white layer measuring 2 ¾ inches square.

We stamped our cute elephant in black ink and embossed it with clear powder. After letting it flatten under books, we coloured it with pencil crayons (light grey, red, and an orange to match our layer).

To assemble, we glued down the orange layer onto the card first, then the purple layer, and then the stamped layer on top.

In the corners we glued on baby hearts that we punched out in the light purple cardstock.

And there you have it, a super cute kid’s Valentine’s Day card.

Surfing Card

It’s week two of our Summer theme! The name this week is “Surf’s Up.” It’s a light blue matte shade and very Summery. We’ve been inspired to make a card from this shade. It’s a perfect “Just Because” card that you can use to celebrate Summer!

You don’t need very many things to make this card. It’s super easy.

First of all find some surf boards that you can print off and trace from the Internet. We decided on a few different sizes and shapes to make it more fun and whimsical. We kept them to about 3 inches tall/long and about an inch or so wide.

Then we decided on a colour for our card. We chose a light blue shade like the eye shadow colour that we picked for this week.

Then we picked out some colours that would look good with the blue and traced the surfboards on them and cut them out.

We found some stamps that we thought would make a good pattern (patterns/designs work best for this) on our boards and we stamped and embossed those on the surfboards.

Next we made some sand by cutting it out of some sand coloured paper. Draw a curvy line out for the top of the sand first and make it as deep as you want.

Lastly we glued the sand on and then arranged the surfboards in the centre of the card. You can put them in front of or behind of the sand; it’s up to you. Add some waves and a sun if you like.

Mother's Day Gift Certificate

Now that Easter is done, the next holiday on the way is Mother’s Day. To get prepared for that we have a few posts of some neat crafts and a yummy meal that you can make.

This week is a fun little craft that you can make for mom especially if you want to give her an “experience” as opposed to an actual physical gift.

We are going to show you a couple of versions of a gift certificate that you can make for your mom. Certificates are a little different from the coupon book of things that mom can ask you to do when she chooses to redeem them. We’ve made a couponbook for Father’s Day in the past and that is a cool idea if you want have a bunch of things that you want to give your mom. If you have a special idea of something that you want to do for your mom or with your mom, then this is a great idea.

You don’t need many supplies to make these certificates. All you need is some cardstock, punches and stamps if you choose to use those, glue, ribbon (again if you choose to use some), scissors, and a cutting machine if you have one.

We have a couple of versions for you that you can make.

The first one utilizes a cutting machine that will cut out things or write/draw things onto your certificate. It’s fairly simple to do. You just need to choose cardstock and lay it out in the software.  Just cut a certificate to fit inside of a card and then have your machine write the words you want and have it draw a couple of pictures to match your gift which you can clour afterwards.

The second one is more kid friendly but it’s also done without a cutting machine because not everyone has one to use. Pick some colours for your certificate first. Choose what gift you want to give your mom and then on a piece of cardstock (you can layer a lighter more neutral piece on top of a coloured piece), print the words you’d like on the certificate and then cut down to the size that will fit inside your card or envelope. Then you can decorate with punches and stamps and cut outs or even print pictures on the same layer as the words and colour them. We've done two for you to see...
