Oscar Dress Card Part Two

Welcome to Oscar dress card tutorial day. Last week we counted down our favourite Oscar outfits and we picked Vanessa Kirby’s light pink elegant gown as our #1 choice. Today we will unveil our card inspired by this gown and the steps to make it. Take a look…

First of all I went through all of the pink cardstock and picked out a couple lighter shades.

I used a darker shade as the base/card measuring 4 ¾ x 6 ¾ inches.

Next I cut a larger layer 4 ½ x 6 ½ inches to go onto the card front. It was the lightest shade of pink almost similar to the colour of the actual gown.

Then I chose a pink shade in-between the two and I cut two 1 ¼ inch wide strips the length of the sheet of cardstock.

I glued those strips down onto the light layer from diagonal corner to diagonal corner forming almost an X or what reminded me of the deep V neck on the dress. I then trimmed the strips to fit onto the card.

Then I glued this layer onto the card front.

Now I cut two more layers. One is a sparkly silver layer (2 ½ x 2 ¾  inches) representing the simple necklace that complimented the gown and then a smaller white layer (2 ½ x 2 inches) for stamping.

I stamped the white layer with a simple word “Happy” and I did this in red ink and embossed it. I wanted to really tie the entire Oscar look into the card so I incorporated her red lips and nails by stamping in red.

Then I glued the white layer off center onto the silver layer.

I put a foam piece on the back and then attached that to the center of the card covering where the two strips of pink come together in the middle.

And there you have our 2021 Oscar dress card!

Birthday Card

Another week already!

This week I made a Birthday card for a friend so I thought that I would share it with you.

As Summer wraps up, I thought I would go with a bright and fun card.

I used the regular size that we do for cards, 6 ¾ x4 ¾. I picked a bright green as my base and then layered a 6 ¼ x 4 ¼ bright pink layer on top.

Before doing that I stamped the pink layer with beige ink and then used white embossing powder over it to make for bright white words. I left some space under the words, an inch or so. Then I flattened this layer.

I punched some bright green hearts, three to be exact. Then when the layer was flat, I glued the three hearts under the words.

Then finally I glued the layer onto the card and then a bright cheery Birthday card was created!

Quick and Easy Valentine's Day Crafts

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we have found some sweet and simple crafts to make for someone special in your life. They are not very hard crafts to make. You might already have many of the supplies handy at home.

First up...yarn heart. This one is super simple. Find some yarn in the colour that you want your heart to be. Next find some sturdy cardboard. I had a box that I was recycling so we cut that up. Trace whatever size heart you want to make onto the cardboard and cut it out.

Tie the yarn around the heart to secure it and tape the end of the yarn onto the heart. Begin to wrap. Wrap in all directions and to whatever thickness you like; tie a knot at the end when you're done.

Eventually you have something like this... You can attach something to hang it up with or you can lay it down somewhere as a decoration.

This next one is more for the kids. It super cute! We’re going to use hearts to make a Valentine bee.

You will need red or pink, black, and yellow cardstock. Cut two large hearts from each of these colours (ours are 3 ¼ inches wide and about 2 inches deep from the middle indent of the heart to the bottom point).

You will also need two red smaller hearts (we punched them with our 1 inch heart punch) and two mini hearts which we punched out as well. The mini hearts are for the “mouth” so you want them to be a bit smaller.

Use a black heart for the bottom and then layer yellow on top, then black, and then yellow again. Make sure there is an even amount of each colour showing in the layers except for the last yellow heart which you will see all of because that is the face.

Glue on the red heart wings next so that they stick out from each side.

Now for the antennas, you can use pipe cleaners if you have them or we just cut out some slightly curvy antennas out of black cardstock. Attach your medium hearts to the ends of these.

Lastly you have to complete your face. Get as fancy as you would like. You can use stickers, googly eyes, or you can draw on two little eyes like we did. We drew a little smiley face and then put those mini hearts at either ends. Cute!

If you want a no fuss super easy craft, then this one’s for you. You will need some coloured paper or patterned paper which is what we used. Cardstock is too thick for this.

Cut a large fat heart out of your paper. Ours measured 7 inches wide and 5 ¼ inches from the middle indent to the bottom point.

If you are using patterned paper, then put it pattern side down and then fold the sides towards the centre so that they overlap slightly.

Fold the top towards the middle so that it looks like an envelope.

Now fold your envelope flap down (it should be a triangle) and close it with a heart sticker.

Before sealing it you can write a love/special message in the centre of the heart so when someone opens it up, they see your message.

I’ve kept the most complex out of these simple Valentine’s crafts for last.

Out of some sturdy cardstock, make a template of a 2 inch wide heart to trace along with a 3 inch one. We cut our smaller hearts out of a pattern piece of paper and another one out of our homemade pink paper. The two bigger hearts were cut out of a white cardstock that had a simple 3D line design on it.

Now glue the little heart onto the middle of the big heart.

With an exacto knife cut around the bottom half of your inside smaller heart, almost like you are tracing it with your knife. You should have a little slit to slip the pages of a book through.

Here are all the finished products. Super easy to make and super cute!

Heart Pop Up Card

Are you ready for a mini theme? You should be because it’s Valentine’s Day coming up and you’re gonna get one. We are doing a couple crafty posts in the lead up to Valentine’s Day so that you can create something sweet for a special someone in your life.

Today we are making our specialty, a card. It’s not just any card...it’s a heart pop up card. Does it get better than that?

We don’t let anything go to waste here so we are going to use some of the leftover hearts that we cut out last year for our heart wreath (see it here) and use them in this card.

It may look a bit complicated but this card is actually simple.

First off, pick a colour for your card and then choose some patterned paper and a shade of cardstock to compliment the pattern.

We chose a medium shade of pink for our card and then we went with a pink polka dotted pattern piece of paper and a dark red plain sheet of cardstock for our inside heart.

We’re not using any fancy cutter today (but you certainly could if you wanted), we’ve picked a 4 inch heart that we had left over from our wreath and are tracing that on the patterned paper and the red cardstock to create the pop up heart. Trace three patterned hearts and two red cardstock hearts.

We also traced a light pink heart the same size to put on the front, but more to come on that later.

Now fold all of the hearts in half except for the one on the front. For the pattern ones fold the pattern inwards.

Cut the card to the size you want. We’re using out usual 4 ¾ x 6 ¾ size card.

Glue the hearts together so that you have a “heart fan” when you’re done. Alternate the pattern and the cardstock.

Next stamp the layer for the outside. We have picked a cute love bird stamp that we are stamping in silver on the light pink heart.

We’re going to glue this to the centre of the card.

Now we are going to fill the excess space around the big heart with some smaller hearts in a variety of sizes. We had lots leftover smaller hearts so we used those and then we tried punching some tiny hearts out of our new sparkly sticky paper.

Lastly, we’re going to glue the fan heart inside along the inside crease. We decided that it needed something a little extra so we punched two hearts to go in opposite corners of the inside of the card.

Here's the finished product.
