Dulce De Leche Lava Cakes

It’s almost New Year’s Eve and if you’re looking for a sweet treat to make and have to ring in the New Year then we have just the treat for you! Dulce De Leche lava cakes are absolutely divine. They are super sweet but so yummy.

You will need...

1 2/3 cups of Dulce De Leche

½ cups of melted butter

2 egg yolks

2 whole eggs

¼ cup of flour

Butter and flour to line your ramekins

Mix the Dulce De Leche and the melted butter.

In a separate bowl, mix the eggs and yolks and then add in the Dulce De Leche mix.

Add in the flour a little at a time and mix well.

Line the ramekins with the butter and then the flour.

Pour the batter into the ramekins.

Bake the cakes for 12-14 minutes at 425 degrees. You want the cakes to look jiggly. You can cook them more if you want to but the more set they are, the less molten they will be!

Once they have cooled ever so slightly then use a sharp knife to run around the edges of the cakes. Flip over onto a plate and then top with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. You can drizzle with chocolate sauce too if you have some.

Oscar Dress Card 2018!

Ok, so today is one of our most favourite posts of the year, yes today is Oscar dress card day. As you know from years past, we love taking our favourite dress worn at the Oscars and making it into a card. There are always so many beautiful dresses/outfits worn so it can be a difficult task, but we go through all of the dresses and look for one that inspires us and we create our version of it in card form. First of all though, we are going to count down our top 10 dresses. Some were quite close in the running for Oscar dress card of the year, so take a look at all these beautiful dresses and then take a look at our number one choice and the card we created. 

Our Oscar Top 10 Dresses, 2018: 

10. Ashley Judd – This dress is a very simple plum coloured strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. Perfect if you want a simple classic look.

9. Allison Janney – This is simple yet not so simple dress. There isn’t a lot of bling or beading to it. It’s a plain red dress, yet it’s so elegant. The sleeves are what make this dress wow and stand out. Her sleeves are floor length with large slits for her arms to come out of. It’s almost like a shawl cape. I’ve never seen anything like it. 

8. Margot Robbie – There were a lot of classic white dresses this year. This one has some really pretty beading at the bodice. It could even be worn as a wedding dress. 

7. Leslie Mann – This is a princess gown dress. The red ball gown has a delicate flower pattern all throughout the dress. You don’t notice it right away because it’s in a shade that is very close to the dress colour. 

6. Molly Sims – Ok, so I LOVE this gown. It’s purplish silver with sparkly beads and a slit. I absolutely love the sleeves as well. 

5. Jennifer Lawrence/Gal Gadot –Metallic shimmery dresses were also another popular pick this year. These two stood out. Plus, it’s Wonder Woman! 

4. Helen Mirren – Again, this deep blue gown was so simple and sophisticated. The blue necklace is a nice touch to make this simple dress very elegant and chic. 

3. Allison Williams –This dress was a top pick for us and was almost our Oscar card. It is a nude blushy colour with cap sleeves, a puffy skirt, and really gorgeous intricate beading on the bodice. Again, this could be a perfect pick for a summer time wedding. 

2. Jennifer Garner – Some say it’s purple, some say it’s blue, but this is a stunning dress and colour. It especially looks nice with the dark brown hair that Jennifer Garner has. The one shoulder style is very flattering and the long flowy train makes it such a delicate Goddess like dress. 

1. Greta Gerwig – Ok, so our number one dress is this absolutely gorgeous canary yellow gown that Greta Gerwig, who was nominated for Best Director, wore. It’s a very straight sheath style gown with a v-neck and spaghetti straps, and it has these very dainty pretty flowers all over that had sparkles in them. The colour suited her perfectly; a very vibrant bright splash of colour. To top it all off, she finished the gown with a statement style necklace. Beautifully perfect!

Chinese New Year Fan

Today is Chinese New Year. 2018 is the Year of the Dog. The Dog is the eleventh animal in the Chinese zodiac. People who are born under the year of the Dog are often loyal, honest, and reliable; they don’t abandon their family, friends or work and are very popular in social circles. They are good at fixing and finding. However, they can be quite anxious at times even though they don’t show it. Men born under the Year of the Dog sign are energetic, genuine, and straightforward, but they are also quite stubborn and opinionated. Women born under this sign are protective, cautious, and independent, but they can be slow to trust.

To celebrate the day, we are making a Chinese fan that you can use as a fun craft to do with the kids or that you can make for decorations to celebrate the holiday.

The fan that we are making is a take on the fans that you probably made in art class at school. They are super easy and fun to make.

You will need some construction paper. Cardstock is too thick so you won’t want to use that. We have chosen red, but you can go with any colour. Good luck and popular colours for Chinese New Year are gold and red, so we are using red construction paper. 

We folded the paper in half, then unfolded it, then repeatedly folded the edges into the middle to make sure that all of the folds were even, until they were the desired width.

Then after you’ve folded it, you unfold it and then refold in a zigzag pattern.

After it’s all been folded, we decided where we wanted cut outs to be and then we cut in those spots. You don’t have to cut any pieces out, but we thought it was a nice added touch.

After you’ve done the cut outs, you can decorate. We are making it a subtle Year of the Dog fan so we drew paw prints near the top of the fan and then we did gold borders around the cut out spaces. If you want to bring the Year of the Dog even more into your fan you can print, stamp, or draw pictures onto the paper that you fold into your fan.

Lastly, we coloured two small labels gold and we taped them around the bottom of the fan to hold it together. You can also use Scotch Tape to hold it together or a twist tie.

Now you have Chinese New Year, Year of the Dog fan!
