The
invitations to your wedding are very important. They should be one of the
things that you do early on when planning your wedding because if you don’t
send out invitations to invite people to the weeding then there’s nothing to
plan for. Also, once you narrow down the invite list then you know how much of everything
that you need and how many to plan your wedding for.
Some people
get invitations made for them, some buy kits from crafts stores, and some go at
it from scratch all on their own. All are very good options, but for those adventurous
people out there, we are going to share with you how to make the invitations all
on your own. I think it’s a good idea to find inspiration from wedding
magazines, websites, and from invitations that you may have received. Kind of
narrow down the style that you like and want to go with and that best
represents you as a couple and your wedding. Colours are also an important
thing. If you have the colour scheme of your wedding picked out early on then
you can incorporate those colours, if not, you can go with neutral colours that
will compliment any colours that you end up choosing later on.
We have a tutorial
of Nicole’ invites. She went with purple and grey as the main colors because those
are her wedding colours. So take a peek at what we have for you below and enjoy!
First of
all, gather up all of the necessary supplies. We are only showing you how to do
one invitation of course, so you’ll need enough supplies for however many
invitations that you are making. You can make the invitation any size that you'd like. We did roughly a half a page of cardstock for the main layer and then adjusted the other layers to what we thought looked good.
We’ve chosen
a purple card with a layer of dark grey that we have punched with a decorative
top border and then layered the invitation words on top on a white cardstock
layer.
Next we’ve a
dark purple (which matches the bridesmaids dresses) ribbon is added near the
bottom. The ribbon seen here is medium in thickness but you can go with
whatever ribbon that matches your invitations.
Nicole is skilled at bow making so she’s made a flat bow that is glued together with the glue gun to nicely finish off the card. I believe that we have done a demo before in another one of our blog posts.
And there
you have it! A beautiful and elegant homemade wedding invitation. So now you
can gather up some friends or your wedding party, put on a movie or some music,
and have a night of making homemade wedding invitations.
P.S. Don't forget to buy envelopes!
