How to Make Valentine's Decorations

“Without Valentine’s Day, February would be...well, January.” – Jim Gaffigan

I’ve probably said this every year, but Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday and as of today it’s a week and a day away!

Valentine’s Day decorations are always so cute and festive looking. I have never had a Valentine’s Day party, I have had a birthday party with a heart theme though, but heart decorations are fun and very easy to make. This week we are doing a tutorial on how to make a heart chain decoration for your Valentine’s Day party or just to make your house a festive place to be this Valentine’s Day. I think at one point in time we have all made a chain garland from scrap bits of construction paper, but we are going to get a little bit more creative with this chain of hearts. We here at Paperwhite Creations like to recycle and reuse whenever we can so we are going to use the left over scraps of cardstock from our homemade cards to make this heart chain.

You will need:

  • A stapler

  • Scotch tape

  • Scissors

  • 6 ¾ x ¾ inch strips of construction paper or cardstock to make the hearts - the color is up to you depending on your taste or color theme.

  • Roughly 4x1/4 inch strips of construction paper or cardstock to link the hearts – again, the color is up to you.

Step 1

Gather all of your supplies: scissors, strips of paper (the amount will depend on how long you want your chain of hearts to be), stapler, and tape.

Step 2

6 ¾ x ¾ inch strip, fold in half, curve in the ends to make a heart, staple or tape the two ends together.

Here I’ve shown a step by step how to make a heart that will be in your chain.

Step 3

After you’ve made a few hearts use the smaller strips to link them together.

Step 4

I have made a few short chain of hearts with a variety of colors to give you some ideas of what you can create!

Happy heart crafting!
