Oscar Dress Card 2019

The Oscar’s were last weekend so you know what that means...Oscar dress card! We’ve counted down our Top 10 looks and number one has a card inspired by it. As usual, they are in no particular order; they are just 10 dresses that we like. Take a look and enjoy!

Jennifer Lopez-This was a super sparkly dress and I love super sparkly. It does have a high neck which I’m not a huge fan of, but this dress was just so sparkly that it didn’t matter. J.Lo’s after party blue dress was gorgeous too. It reminded me of a peacock in a good way. 

Octavia Spencer-A few years back Octavia Spencer’s grey-silver gown was our choice for a card  and this year her pick was beautiful and very princess like with the puffy skirt and off the shoulder neckline.

Lady Gaga-Lady Gaga’s awards dresses have been absolutely gorgeous. She opted for two black gowns at the Oscars and the second one when she sang “Shallow” was so Audrey Hepburn-like it was a perfect ball gown for her big night. 

Krysten Ritter-This was a very lacy form fitting dress with wide arms. You don’t always think of lace and red, but this deep red colour looked really stunning in the lace and the little bits of sparkle were just what the dress needed.

Tina Fey-We always gravitate towards blue shades each year and this year is no different. Tina Fey’s simple, flowy, royal blue dress was bright and cheerful and it was the perfect way to kick off the show.

Constance Wu-Last year’s card was inspired by a dress almost this colour and it’s on our list of favourites this year again. Constance Wu’s dress is so dreamy and fun that it just makes you want to smile and watch Crazy, Rich, Asians over and over again!

Marina de Tavira-This dress was a perfect shade of red. It wasn’t your basic strapless gown; it looked light and airy with just the right amount of frills and layers.

Helen Mirren-When first looking at this dress you can’t for sure tell what colour it actually is, but when you look at it from different angles you can see the pretty bright pink shade that it is. Poking out is the underlying coral layer. It kind of looks like a layered flower. It’s super flowy and simple; it doesn’t have lots of frills and bling on it. The colour and fabric took over for this dress. It's super fun and cheery and ready to ring in Spring. 

Regina King-The slit on this dress is amazing! It was high on our list for our card to make. It’s such a gorgeous gown that not everyone could pull off. It was paired with the right amount of jewels so as not to take over the overall look of the gown. The gathering on the side as well as on the bodice was beautiful and constructed to flatter the wearer of the dress. And that train...beautiful! 

Amy Adams – Ok, so our winner for our Oscar dress card is...Amy Adams. Both Nicole and I loved this dress. It wasn’t a straight across strapless gown; it had some shape to the top. The white and silver go so nice together and the sparkly silver patter just made the dress pop. So stunning!

2017 Oscar Dress Card

Ah! This is my favourite post of the year. I love movies and I love the Oscars and I love fancy gowns so everything about this post is fun and exciting for me. Nicole and I have spent some time looking over all of the beautiful gowns this year and we have compiled a list of our top 10 with number one being our Oscar Dress card pick that we have created after being inspired by one of the very beautiful gowns.

This year many of the gowns were sparkly/beaded or very neutral colours like black and white. There were a few golds and silvers, but not a lot of bright colours this year which is a bit different.

So here is our list (the gowns are in no particular order except number one is our favourite and has inspired our card).

Halle Berry in Versace and Forevermark Diamonds

Halle Berry – I love the one shoulder style of this dress and how the blush and black material is all intertwined. I’m also loving the subtle sparkle and whatever is happening at the bottom.

Leslie Mann in Zac Posen

Leslie Mann – Leslie Mann provided us with a splash of colour. Her solid yellow dress was nicely accented with simple bows. Any patterns or elaborate accents would have been too much for this dress, but keeping it simple made her look like a modern Disney princess!

Isabelle Huppert in Armani Privé

Isabelle Huppert – There were quite a few dresses this year with sleeves and I really like them. This one had lots of shimmer that accented the flowy airy style. 

Ruth Negga in Valentino

Ruth Negga – All the combinations going on in this dress makes it so memorable. It has a bit of everything, high neckline, long sleeves, a long train, and lace, without being overdone.  

Chrissy Teigan in Zuhair Murad

Chrissy Teigan – This dress is stunning. Yes, there is a very high dramatic slit, but the higher neckline and long sleeves evens it all out.

Taraji P. Henson in Alberta Ferretti

Taraji P. Henson – This one is sleek and simple with a beautiful neckline. The plainness of the actual dress allows for the long slit to stand out making it such a glamourous looking gown.  

Felicity Jones in Dior

Felicity Jones –  This short golden dress is sweet and cute like and reminds us of a ballerina.

Viola Davis in Armani Privé

Viola Davis –This red dress stood out because the colour was so vibrant and the dress style was so elegant.

Emma Stone in Givenchy Couture

Emma Stone – Emma Stone’s dress just made me smile because it’s sparkly and gold. The perfect mixture of sequins and fringe (it had just the right amount of everything without overdoing it) made it seem like such a classic Hollywood dress.

Octavia Spencer in Marchesa and Forevermark Diamonds

Octavia Spencer – So here is our winner. Octavia Spencer’s silver ball gown was so beautiful. We just loved the satin rouching at the top and the feathery bottom. It looked like a full on Princess gown.

Here’s our card that we created and that was completely inspired by this stunning gown.

Our Favorite Blog Posts of 2016

Now that we have covered the colour of the year, we’re going to do what we did last year (see it here) and pick our favourite posts of 2016. We had some really fun ones this past year because we were planning Nicole’s wedding. There were some really fun and interesting wedding related tutorials and we did our lead up to the Royals visit and of course we did the summer of nail polish!

Wedding Shoes (February 26, 2016)-This one was one of the first wedding posts that we did. We got really into the types of shoes that brides can wear. So many choices! 

Oscar Dresses and Card (March 4, 2016) –This will always be one of my favourite posts every year. I find it really cool to pick one of the dresses and to create a completely inspired by that dress.

Flower Meanings and Messages (March 25, 2016) – This one felt like homework but in a good way. I spent many hours looking up flowers and their meanings. I should write a letter in flower language.

Perfecting the Wedding Day Look (May 13, 2016) – We spent so many fun Friday nights having friend bonding time and curling hair and doing makeup in the living room with the music playing. I’ll never forget it...it was fun and is such a special memory for us.

Father’s Day DIY Frames (June 17, 2016) – We not only showed you how to make a special keepsake in this post, but Nicole made one for her dad with a wedding picture of them in it.

13 Great Places to Hike in Canada (July 15, 2016) – Again, this one felt like homework in a good way. We both researched great places to hike in the provinces of Canada and came up with come very neat places that we’d like to go to. Some of the hikes were pretty intense though.

Texting Facts (August 19, 2016) – When I first thought about doing a texting blog I thought it would be boring but we learned a lot and I absolutely loved the Chinese texting language that we learned. 770880 :)

London Fogs (September 16, 2016) – When the Royal came to town we thought we would post about London Fogs as a part of our mini 'British' blog series. I have never had one before so Nicole thought she’d show me how to make one. Delicious!

Silver Bells Wreath (December 10, 2016) – Nicole needed a wreath to decorate her new place this year for Christmas so we turned it into a blog post and now she has a wreath that he can hang up every year.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas (December 23, 2016) – I’ve always found different languages very interesting so learning how to say “Merry Christmas” in a bunch of different languages was kinda neat.
