2018 Colour of the Year

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

Happy New Year! That’s what we first wanted to say because it’s the first post of 2018. With a New Year, comes a new Colour of the Year. This is one of our most favourite posts of the year and this year even more so because the Colour of the Year is purple (we both love purple), Ultraviolet to be specific.

Ultraviolet is a blue based purple, this is the shade of purple that I love the most. I really like the under shades of blue in purple things that I choose to use because I find it bold and sophisticated and also very calming.

Ultraviolet is considered a “mysterious” shade of purple that is complex, contemplative, dramatic and thoughtful. It tends to relay “visionary thinking that points us towards the future,” originality, and ingenuity. It’s a colour that’s full of emotion and depth and relays uniqueness, imagination, non-conformity, and creative tho those who use it and admire it.

You’ll often associate purples with artistic brilliance and unconventionality. Pantone connects purple with musical icons such as Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix’s as they’ve expressed themselves with the use of purple in their artistic endeavors.

So we've gone on a fun hunt to find all things Ultraviolet for you. Maybe you'll be inspired to go out and find something Ultraviolet to start off your New Year or maybe you'll come across it throughout the year and work it into your life. We hope you enjoy Ultraviolet!
