DIY No Tape Textbook Cover

Only a few more days left to go before school begins. Everyone knows that when you go to school you’ll need textbooks at some point. Most kids will get them when they go to middle school and then have to have them until they graduate University! Some textbooks have quite interesting covers, but some are boring or old looking and need some brightening up. I never covered my textbooks, but now thinking about it, it’s a good idea to keep them clean and protected as well as to be able to tell them apart from others.

This week Nicole is taking charge of the blog tutorial and she is going show you how to make a textbook cover with just scissors and a brown paper bag and of course any supplies you may want to decorate it with, so here she goes!

Step 1:

Cut apart the brown paper bag. You basically want to cut down the seam of the bag, and cut off the bottom of the bag so it’s spread apart, like one sheet of brown paper.

Step 2:

Centre the book on the paper and then fold the paper snugly around the front so that the edge is a couple inches from the binding.

Do the same to the back cover and then trim it.

Step 3:

Fold up the bottom of the paper about an inch and a half.

Place the text book on the paper, lining up the bottom, to measure the height and then fold the top down. Trim to be about an inch and a half ,if necessary.

Step 4:
Slide the cover on the book so that the book cover is inside the flaps of the paper cover.

Step 5:
Decorate.
There are many different ways you could decorate your book. You can draw or doodle with pens and pencils. You could use stickers, stamps, cut and paste or whatever else you can think of. Use your imagination and have fun!

Lunchbox Notes

In keeping with the back to school theme, we’re going to talk about lunches today. As weird as it sounds, I can’t wait to have kids so that I can pack them lunches for school. I love the idea of coming up with snacks, things to have for lunch, and ideas for homemade baked special treats. The crafty writer side in me is also looking forward to writing little love and encouragement notes to pack in along with their lunch. I think I first heard of/saw this idea on a TV commercial and I thought it was the sweetest thing. For younger kids, school can be a little intimidating and even stressful, so getting a sweet or funny note from mom or dad is sure to brighten their day. I found a really cool website called The Kids Activity Blog and they have a bunch of templates and ideas that show you how to make these lunch notes. So take a look now, print off a few notes or get ideas for your own, and you’ll be ready for your kiddo’s first day of school!

DIY Confetti Notebook Cover

“I was filling entire school notebooks with stories by Grade 3. Of course, they were double-spaced, and the handwriting was huge.” – Linwood Barclay

I love notebooks! I write in one every day just for fun; I have lots of old ones and I look back at them every once in a while. They were my favourite school supply to buy back when I went to school, and today we are going to show you a very simple but fun notebook for back to school.

All you need are some notebooks, craft punches (we went with hearts), cardstock in a variety of colors (we picked all blue), and glue!
